Great Ashby Area Guide

Development in the Great Ashby area began in the early part of 1999 and has fastly become one of the most desirable areas to live in the northern part of Stevenage. Highly regarded builders such as Croudace, Copthorne and Bovis Homes are a few to mention who have all contributed to different phases and styles of build over the years. Ranging from hi spec apartments, to 1, 2, 3 and 4+ bedroom homes.

Great Ashby attracts a variety of people to the area, offering homes of good proportion and of good value to single occupancy, young couples and families alike. A low crime rate and a real community feel are also contributing factors to its popularity and influx of commuting residents to the area.

Largely surrounded by woodland, the area includes a new district park with playing fields, play areas and a nature reserve. Great Ashby has a modern community centre, a veterinary surgery, day nursery and primary school as well as a neighborhood centre with local shops offering your essential amenities.

The area also benefits from a regular bus service taking you into the New Town centre via other links in the Stevenage area. Either exit of Great Ashby Way will lead you to carriageway links, which in turn connect the A1(M) giving access to the M25 London orbital, the heart of the nation’s motorway networks. A train journey of approximately half an hour to King’s Cross puts London within easy reach onto major UK destinations.

From the heart of Great Ashby, a ten minute drive or half hour walk approximately will lead you to Stevenage Town providing a wide-range of facilities, including an Arts and Leisure Centre, a Swimming Pool and a Leisure Park housing a multiplex cinema, fitness club, ten-pin bowling complex, nightclubs and numerous restaurants.

Shopping needs are catered for by major retailers in the pedestrianised town centre. Steeped in history Stevenage’s Old Town High Street is a conservation area boasting a wealth of specialist shops, restaurants and old coaching inns.

At the heart of Stevenage is Fairlands Valley, a beautiful 120 acres of parkland and lake offering sailing, windsurfing, angling and other water sports.
